David M. Stimpson

Managing Partner

Specializing in civil litigation and family law, David has practiced law for over 20 years. He began his career as an associate with an Ann Arbor-based litigation firm, representing clients in Circuit Courts throughout Southeast Michigan. In 2004, David helped found a law firm with offices in Ann Arbor, Monroe, and Tecumseh. Stimpson & Associates emerged from that firm in 2012.

Dave earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo
and his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University. He has been elected to the Lenawee County Board of Commissioners since 2004 and served as Board Chairman for six years. He has also served on several community and regional boards, including the Local Finance Authority Board for the City of Tecumseh, the CDBG Loan Approval Panel, the Lenawee County Community Mental Health Board, the Jackson-Lenawee-Hillsdale Community Action Agency Board, and the Southeast Michigan Substance Abuse Oversight Council.

David maintains continuing education credentials in family law and estate planning through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He is certified in civil and domestic mediation through the Michigan Supreme Court and is approved to serve as a court-appointed mediator in all 83 counties in Michigan. David is also a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the American Bar Association, and the Washtenaw and Lenawee County Bar Associations. He has served as President of the Lenawee County Bar Association.

In addition to his legal practice, David has been involved in statewide efforts addressing children and family services. He previously chaired the Michigan Association of Counties Human Services Committee, where he worked on state legislative issues involving children and family services. He was also appointed by two Michigan governors from different political parties to task forces focused on juvenile justice and children and family services, and he has testified before the Michigan House and Senate on issues involving family law and children.

David is also active in his community as a past president of Kiwanis and through his support of God’s Bread Basket, a local food pantry. He is a member of the Tecumseh Downtown Development Authority and Chamber of Commerce and serves as legal counsel to several nonprofit, community-based programs. He also helped create Stimpson & Associates’ annual Wills for Warriors program, which provides complimentary wills to eligible Michigan veterans and their spouses. David remains committed to supporting local businesses, youth programs, community events, and the people and families throughout the region.
